António Amorim
António Amorim, Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) and researcher at IPATIMUP – Institute of Pathology and Molecular Immunology of the University of Porto, and more recently at i3S – Institute of Research and Innovation in Health of the University of Porto, Portugal. Leader of the Population Genetics and Evolution Group at this institution since 1996.
Author of 500 published scientific works, with more than 11,500 citations, in 2023 he joined the group of the ten most influential researchers in the world in the field of forensic genetics over the last 40 years.
Member since the founding of GHEP-ISFG, he was President (2004-2008) and Vice-President (2008-2012) of the Executive Committee. His contribution had an undeniable impact on all his colleagues who shared conversations, discussions and scientific work with him, always in favor of the development of the field of forensic and population genetics within our group.
He passed away on April 11, 2024.
A person with an extraordinary scientific culture and critical spirit has left us. He inspired generations of students, researchers and technicians in the most diverse areas. A restless, critical and free mind. In forensic genetics, he leaves us a remarkable legacy.
With the aim of paying tribute to our colleague, we invited all those who knew him, to share with us a message, photograph, news, article, typical phrase, project, achievement, encouragement, moment, anything they remembered about him or a moment shared with him, in order to help us preserve his memory as a teacher, scientist, person, companion, friend, colleague...
The messages received were compiled in a tribute presentation that was made during the GHEP Meeting, in Salta, Argentina, in June 2024.
